An email I sent to Aura Print:

A pat on the back for you and your team - please pass this on to your team for me….

I wanted to send you a quick email to thank you and your team for doing a quick turn around for me on my order. I needed it urgently, and your friendly and helpfulness - plus of course your efficiency resulted in me being more than satisfied. I will definitely be using you again in the future.

    Thanks very much.

I ordered 2 banners from Aura Print for my dj business. One for on the front of my booth and the other for outdoor public events to put on railings etc. Their website allows you to enter custom sizes of the banner to suit your needs. My booth is 4ft wide so I entered 4ft by 1ft in the appropriate boxes and it gave me the size I wanted at a low price. They sent my banners out by next day delivery and they came super quick. The quality was exceptional and I will be ordering with them again infact i'm designing a new banner now! They also have a thick hem on the banners which is extremely important as they increase the strength of the banner and prolong the life of the banner when used outdoors.

Our Metallic Foiling Process

This entry was posted in by Richard Walker.

How our foiling process works

A brief introduction

Our metallic foiling process for business cards, flyers, brochures, tickets relies on several different steps. Each step involves a process which builds up a layer to the construction of your print. In this blog we’ll look at how we foil business cards for a variety of simple and more complicated designs. If you’re unsure on how to set your artwork up for foiling, this blog will be a handy guide, while not getting too technical. We’ll start with some examples of what we can create, then go into the process.

The very first step to foil business cards

Much like many other print, the first step is always to decide on your artwork and design. Before we go into some examples of what we can do, there are a few rules we need to go over.

  • With the foil process, it comes out best on a smooth surface, so we recommend using soft touch lamination with most paper types (for the sake of this blog we’ll use it on everything).
  • We insist on using a soft touch lamination on coloured paper as it’s too fluffy for the foil to come out it’s best.
  • Don’t forget that ink is transparent, so anything other than black ink on coloured card will get tinted by the colour of the card behind.

A blank paper background with foil artwork

This is a simple one, you simply choose your paper type, foil colour, then design your artwork in 100% black. Everything that is black and not sealed off with a laminate layers will get foiled.

So, the layers for this process would be:

1) Your paper.

2) Soft touch lamination.

3) Print your design in solid black over the laminate.

4) Everything that is black gets foiled.

Foil No Background

This foil business card is a little trickier. Because of our process, we need to split up everything that is going to become foil and everything that isn’t into separate files. Like what we did above, but this time we print before we laminate to seal off black ink beneath. So the process goes:

  • Your paper.
  • Print what isn’t getting foiled in black.
  • Soft touch lamination.
  • Print what you want foiling in solid black over the laminate.
  • Everything that is black and not sealed off by laminate gets foiled.

Foil Black Ink Background

This is one of the most popular foil business cards we create. It might sound complicated, but we promise it isn’t. It’s practically the same process as the above, the only limitation is it must be on white paper. As before, just split out your colour background and then everything that wants foiling. The process goes:

  • Your paper.
  • Print your colour background.
  • Soft touch lamination.
  • Print what you want foiling in solid black over the laminate.
  • Everything that is black and not sealed off by laminate gets foiled.

Making foil business cards

So, without any more delay, here is a brief overview of our foiling process for printed colour background foil business cards.

1: We start off with your choice of paper, this time it’s 400gsm.

2: Next we print everything that isn’t going to end up as foil (the background) in full colour.

3: Following on from that, we seal off all the printed background with a soft touch laminate. This is so the foil doesn’t attach to the background.

4: We send your cards through the printer once again to print what needs foiling in solid black.

5: We send your cards through our foiling machine to apply the final foil business card touch.

That’s the foiling process in a nutshell. The final steps are cutting on the guillotine, quality checking, then packing the cards up to be sent out. The result comes out like this:

So that’s how we foil business cards. The same process applies to most other foiling jobs we do from flyers to brochures. Don’t forget, if you have any questions or are unsure about anything on your foil business cards, simply get in touch with us and we can help.
